Is it possible to add global menu support in unity?

Hi there,

I am wondering if it is possible to add global menu in unity, like the work done in LibreOffice Menubar project: https://launchpad.net/lo-menubar

I have tried using jayatana to do the trick, which is described in
http://hanynowsky.wordpress.com/2012/05/12/integration-of-java-swing-applications-with-unity-global-menu-in-ubuntu-12-04/
this approach works for netbeans and IntelliJ Idea, but seems not working with MATLAB on my machine.

Any hints, suggestions or comments are appreciated. If it is possible to that, I can try to help. My laptop has only 768 pixel vertical resolution, so any space saving in vertical direction is a nice thing.

Have you tried contacting the author of the link you gave? They may be able to make similar for Matlab.

Are there any bugs reported against Matlab to get Globalmenu support added?
