install mate-user-guide

Asked by Fred Yates

I am a newbie..........

I am trying to learn about 16.04 Mate Gnome and found this package listed, somehow?

How do I go about getting it installed, placed or what ever on my system so I can refer to it?
There are absolutely no clues for someone of my experience level.
I understand that it is self evident for others.

Thanks, Fred

That was a very concise answer.
Which I did and it told me:
********
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  linux-image-4.4.0-34-generic linux-image-extra-4.4.0-34-generic
  linux-signed-image-4.4.0-34-generic
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 9 not upgraded.
***********
Which I did.

Although it claims it was present, I never could find and I still can't find it.
Where exactly was it installed and how do I find it, so I can use it?

If you press ALT + F2 and type:

guide

does it show?

If not then try:

sudo updatedb; locate guide

What is the output?

When searching for "mate-user-guide" or "Help" on your system, you should be able to find an icon for starting it.

Alternatively you can execute the command

yelp help:mate-user-guide

No it did not and the other gave a list of about 50 some items.

reply to Manfred Hamp:

yelp help:mate-user-guide
Was the answer to finding it.

How can I create an icon so I need not run the yelp command?

Where do you want to have this icon?
A .desktop file is provided in the package, so I assume that there should already be an entry in the menu.
I assume that it is called "Help" with a comment "Get help with MATE"

Eventually you could try copying the file
/usr/share/applications/mate-user-guide.desktop
to your desktop folder.
