Update to MariaDB 5.5.58

MariaDB 5.5.58 is released on 18 Oct 2017 (see https://mariadb.com/kb/en/library/mariadb-5558-release-notes/) with various bugfixes and updates. Are you planning to update the mariadb-server-5.5 ubuntu package to the 5.5.58 in the near future? Or will you stop maintaining it?

I suggest you report a bug. If the bug and security fixes are significant then the package will be updated sooner rather than later. Ubuntu is not a rolling release distribution and packages will be left if there is no real reason to update it in favour of stability. Frequently Ubuntu has fairly old package versions, especially in the LTS releases.
