I dont really know what I'm doing (as far as linux&ubuntu) but I fancy myself as a good guesser. There are so many paths of info and so far I've not found any set of linear instructions or guid for installing and learning/using linux.

it looks like there is a problem with the post-installation scripts, which are located in /var/lib/dpkg/info/ .

Try these commands, run from a terminal (Applications->accessories->terminal, or CTRL+ALT+T)

sudo mv /var/lib/dpkg/info/man-db.postinst ~/man-db.postinst.backup

sudo echo "#!/bin/bash" > /var/lib/dpkg/info/man-db.postinst
sudo echo "exit 0" >> /var/lib/dpkg/info/man-db.postinst

This replaces the content of the man-db script with a program that does nothing, and then reports success.

The commands I gave above are wrong, and will result in permissions errors.

These are the correct commands:

sudo mv /var/lib/dpkg/info/man-db.postinst ~/man-db.postinst.backup]

sudo sh -c 'echo "#!/bin/bash" > /var/lib/dpkg/info/man-db.postinst'
sudo sh -c 'echo "exit 0" >> /var/lib/dpkg/info/man-db.postinst'

Can you help with this problem?
