How do I make a list that Members can't Respond-All to?

Asked by Brian Feraru

Hello Ubuntu Community,

I am using Mailman 2.1.17 and I am using the list as a mailing list. I want to be able to mail everyone on our mailing list without people being able to respond to the entire group. I'm trying to figure out how to set that up, but I'm not sure.

Is it with the Mail <-> Newsgateways functions?

Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks!

See the FAQ at <http://wiki.list.org/x/3YA9> for information on configuring an announcement/newsletter/one-way type of list.

I have no experience with mailman, but I think this should be valid for all mail systems:

If you put the group address into the "bcc:" field, every member in that list should receive the mail, but should not see the names of the other recipients, and should not see the name of the address list. So "respond to all" for them does not send mails to everyone.

Depending on the mail system, you might have to put one name (your own one?) into the "to:" field, to meet a potential check that the "to:" field must not be empty.

Manfred Hampl's suggestion in comment #2 will work if you set the list's Privacy options ... -> Recipient filters -> require_explicit_destination to No, but configuring the list as in the FAQ at <http://wiki.list.org/x/3YA9> is still preferable in my opinion as it will actually prevent unwanted posts regardless of how they are generated.
