Regarding persistent changes to screen resolution.

Asked by kendall

Hi,

In my use of lxrandr (Fluxbox, Openbox, and LXDE with SLiM as a login manager), I've not been able to make persistent changes to the screen resolution. Changes are applied until I log out of a session and then the default returns when I log back in. In addition, I've not seen a situation where wallpapers reload properly after changing the resolution. Is lxrandr supposed to be using a daemon of some sort for this kind of thing, or is it not yet supported, or am I missing something terribly obvious?

I'm currently the maintainer of the Linux MInt Fluxbox edition and as a solution for this I've been using a version of the package that includes a script my friend Shane wrote specifically for reloading the wallpaper after changing the resolution, saving this configuration, and then loading the configuration at login with an entry in the startup script. I made it work in LXDE with only very minor changes, though the downside here is that it seems pcmanfm (as a daemon) needs to be killed and restarted to properly reload the wallpaper. If lxrandr isn't supporting these features just yet, then perhaps you can use our work as a blueprint to help implement them.

Please let me know if lxrandr already has these features implemented somewhere. If not, then please consider adding support for this.

could add the command using xrandr in ~/.config/autostart

or set the res in /etc/X11/xorg.conf

This tool doesn't aim to be a full randr frontend. It's a utility for grandma, not for geeks. If you need the full power of RandR, get xrandr (console) or grandr (GUI) and read some tutorials.

Considering it as a tool for non geeks, might especially indicate the essential to keep changed resolution, but this obviously needs 'full power'.
