can i replace ubuntu os with lubuntu?

can i replace ubuntu os with lubuntu? would it write over ubuntu? If so, how do I go about it?
Again I don't speak the linux langauge, so could you walk me thru it? THANKS Todd

there is no such thing as replacing the os , u can always change your desktop environment by installing the required packages ,, and you can run them parallel ,, you can always change which environment you want to log into at your startup screen .....
and also u can remove the packages of unity environment if you wish ....

try
sudo apt-get install lubuntu-desktop
