Hi Greg,

Though I can't try it myself (have switched from lxde to Gnome), you might find some useful information here:

no , that is not even close to what i want . i have add firefox and thunderbird to my panel now i want the weather like you can get with ubuntu . the one that has an icon ,of the present temp , and you click on it and you can get the forcast . i had it while running ubuntu for over 3 years , now i want it with lubuntu . lubuntu is faster than ubuntu . load time of lubuntu is 18 -24 seconds ;; ubuntu 33-38 seconds . tb and ff work faster also .

Thats due to less RAM being used by the desktop. I don't thing the LXPanel can hold such details. The gnome panel is more feature rich than LXPanel, so can provide more functionality

You could use gdesklets and get a weather applet.

gdesklets ; yes there is an applet in it but after you enable it ,it wont open anything ,not even gdesklets . it just is there . how about a desktop weather watcher program . !
 googles gadgets don`t work .

i found this http://weather.weatherbug.com/labs/linux.html and it works ...
on the right side of the panel it shows the temp. and a weatherbug icon on the left side to set location you want ,also click it to see forecast .

just checked the task manager and weatherbug is not resource hungry program . cpu and ram usage are still very low .

I also added this to the Lubuntu mailing list as it is light.
