Installing new version of Linux multimedia studio: lmms

Asked by Raeon A. Angel Sr.

I am new to Linux. How do I install a program I just downloaded?

I have an older version of Linux multimedia studio that I am trying to upgrade, i downloaded the new version, but my terminal says it doesn't have the right command to build...cmake is installed...

Usually software should be installed via package manager, e.g. Software-Center, Synaptic.

Raeon, 12.04 and 12.10 seem to have the same version 0.4.10-2ubuntu1.
Looking for a ppa found this one which is 4.13.

Other.

FYI, wherever bug or answers section assigning the package allows to view the Overview of the specific package. From there, if no newer package is available there, the page offers to search untrusted repos aka ppa.

Another idea would be to check out Debian, where sid has version 0.4.10-2.3.
http://packages.debian.org/sid/lmms

That said, the user can request an update of lmms from debian unstable (sid) at least for Quantal, although Debain import freeze happened already, hence a user needs to provide smart reasons (major bug fixes, e.g. security leak).
