sensord removal

The sensord logging daemon has been removed from this package as is not available on Ubuntu server 18.04.

I want to log the lm-sensors information to syslog, are there any alternatives?

Is there another package / method I can use?
Is it safe to manually download and install the sensord package from an earlier Ubuntu release repo?

I've noticed stopping and starting the lm-sensors service generates a syslog entries but I don't really want to do this for regular logging.
