Acer Aspire 5315 with Ubuntu 11.10 overheating!

Asked by Joey Keilbarth

I have read allot of info on this subject and found that Acer's underlying BIOS for "epower" is keeping the fan from running with Ubuntu, but for some reason if you suspend the netbook then wake it back up the fan runs normally, even elevating the speeds from the sensor like it should? I guess the big question is do they have a program that mimics ePower in Ubuntu? I don't know much about Ubuntu as this is my first time using the software but I'm loving it so far and have it installed on my desktop as well(with no problems) I found another person that said their problem was solved after adding Kernel 2.6.31-19-generic but I have no idea how to go about putting that on my machine. Can somebody help me out?
Thanks

Are there any bugs reported for acpi for the model?
Is the BIOS up to date.

No bugs that I'm aware of. I even installed Psensor, then lm-sensors and ran sensors-detect but it still doesnt sync with the sensor or show a temp difference on Psensor until you suspend the computer then wake it. But after you wake the computer the wireless won't work and the fan runs fine? As far as the BIOS update I dont really know much about it and I heard you could crash it pretty bad if you get the wrong one?

Can you help with this problem?
