Module lirc_wpc8769l not provided

In lucid I got this driver from the package lirc-modules-source.
Now lirc modules are moved to the kernel, by the way there is not any kernel package including lirc_wpc8769l.
How can I get this driver working under precise or quantal?

Thanks a lot actionparsnip for this partial solution.
Anyway I would like to know if this module was forgotten by the ubuntu packagers or it is rejected for some valid reason.
In the first case I will report a bug, in the second I'm curious to know why :)

I suggest you search through the bugs to see why, or report a new bug. There may be a PPA with the module too.
