Thanks for the reply. So all I have to do is fix a bug and post the solution in the bug comment and someone will check and apply the patch it work?

Hock:

The LIRC package is automatically copied from the Debian archive. You would be best to send an email to the maitenance team there, as there is no specific ubuntu maintainer, and one of the repository wide ubuntu maintainers (there are few) would need to prioritise your bug.

http://packages.qa.debian.org/l/lirc.html

The debian maintaners listed there are:
1) Matthew Johnson,
2) Stefan Lippers-Hollmann ,
3) Sven Müller

Thanks, mycae.

I did found that page and also drop a message to the mailing list. But the page info is not even up to date to the latest lirc deb version so I am wondering if still been maintained? Maybe I can try to check with the maintainers directly.

Stefan Lippers-Hollmann has kindly taken time to explain that the Debian Lirc Package and Ubuntu are not in sync. The postinst script are totally different. I would probably have to follow up with mythbuntu team.

Thanks to Micah Gersten in #ubuntu-dev for suggesting to use the ubuntu sponsership process.
