how do I enable ttyACM0

Asked by Vic Morgan

/dev/ttyACM0 isn't an automatic USB option in 2.6.28-17-generic. How do I enable it without getting into kernel manipulation? I used it to download from a Qstarz Q1300S GPS device successfully with Karmic but I've regressed to Jaunty for a more stable platform. I now find that the device doesn't get mounted.

After having to look through kernel matters for something else I found that there is a simple answer in loadable kernel options.
