vmware server

Asked by andrewthe333rd

Hi All,

I'm was trying to install vmware under ubuntu jaunty.. I ran it in terminal mode to see the output originally because i downloaded the wrong version the first time..
Now I can't remember what step I was up to but it was only in the first 3 or 4 questions and I hit ctrl-c to quit it. It then told me to hit ctrl-z to kill it.. That obviously worked. When I try to install it it now says:

You have a previous version of VMware Server installed. Continuing this
install will upgrade to the latest version by first uninstalling the previous
version. Do you wish to continue? (yes/no) yes

If I say yes the followiing occurs:

Uninstalling the tar installation of VMware Server.

Unable to find the answer INITSCRIPTSDIR in the installer database
(/etc/vmware/locations). You may want to re-install VMware Server.

Execution aborted.

Uninstall failed. Please correct the failure and re run the install.

Execution aborted.

And I cannot work out for the life of me how to fix this.. Can anybody help please? I've tried to rm it from /etc but it won't let me .. Permission Denied.

Thanks

Andrew

I suggest you uninstall the current version using the system rather than the new version trying to remove it.

May help

I can't find the thing in the system. I tried to install it via a tarball rather than a package.

sudo vmware-uninstall-mui.pl

According to:
