Hi matt johnson,
if you feel/know that you have no h/w problem with the specific key (ex. works on windows or when running a liveCD) check if the 'right shift' key works.

Some points to check:
a. Type of keyboard, from System > Preferences > Keyboard > Layout click on Keyboard model and try some others (look also at windows control panel to find any specific type).

b. Are you using more than one layouts (ex. other language)? If yes check from the same menu as above, click on the 'Layout options' and then 'Keys to change layout'. Check/change appropriate.

c. Check by running a LiveCD (better a different version than your installation to double check)

Regards,
George

Hi matt johnson, as I did not found anything regarding your specific PC, below is a simple check to do (in case you did not do it):

run Live-CD, check that shift keys are functional. From top panel menu:
System > Preferences > Keyboard Preferences > Layout
write down "keyboard model" and navigate through "Layout options". Keep a note of the selections.
Boot your installation and verify Keyboard Preferences with your previous notes. If any different change it and check.

Good Luck!
George
