Thank you! 5.4.0-107 fixes memory leaks since 5.4.0-99

Asked by dhdurgee@verizon.net

I just wanted to let you know that the 107 kernel is the first since the 99 kernel to close a memory leak that impacts the cinnamon screensaver in a major way. I booted this kernel over 3 and a half days ago and there has yet to be a cinnamon restart due to memory leaks. The kernels between these two leaked to such a great degree that cinnamon was restarting every two hours or so while the screensaver was running.

If possible, please keep whatever patch is in 99 and 107 that is not in the intervening kernels to keep this leak closed.

It impacts other programs as well, but the cinnamon screensaver leak is particularly visible and annoying. This is with Cinnamon 5.2.7 on linux mint x64 20.3 release.

I understand that you do not support Linux Mint. I simply wanted the thank you for correcting an ongoing memory leak that existed for all kernels between 99 and 107 that was especially visible in the Cinnamon screensaver.

I thank you for your work supporting Ubuntu via continued work on the Linux kernel. I thought that by bringing this to your attention it would be possible to identify the patch(es) that were included in 99 and 107 and ensure that they or their successors continued to be present in later kernels.

If there is any way I can assist in identifying the particulars, keeping in mind that I am a user not a developer, I will be happy to do so.

Once again, my thanks for your work on this new kernel.

Two days ago I updated to the 109 kernel. After one day I went back to the 107 kernel. In that one day cinnamon restarted seven times due to memory issues. It had only restarted once since the 107 kernel was installed. So please look into why the 109 kernel has memory issues.

Can you help with this problem?
