Question concerning installation of ubuntu on Asus ZenBook UX450FDX

Asked by Antoine Dolliou

Hello everyone,

I have tried multiple time to install ubuntu 20.04 in a dual boot configuration on my Asus ZenBook UX450FDX . I have encountered multiple problems, from the installation (could not complete when the wifi was activated) to the bugs after ubuntu was installed. My last bug was quite weird and provided a very uncomfortable experience on ubuntu :

- I simply click on a directory, or a file, such as a .bash file or a directory, such that the icon is higlighted in orange, and don't do anything else. Every second, I see a "pulsation" on the icon, like a command was done without doing anything : the icon appear lighter for a milisecond, then darker again.

- another example of this weird bug on firefox this time. when i click on the search bar, every second, the search bar grows and is highlighted in orange (as if I write a text or click on it), then becomes small again.

- More problematic : when i write something on the firefox search bar, the suggestions do not stay open, and close at the same frequency (every second). Very frustrating. There were also a lot of lag when i was writing in the terminal

I also learnt from the french community of ubuntu, that this zenbook version had many ventilors and graphic card problems with ubuntu 20.04, which are apparently not fixed. I have unistalled ubuntu for the moment : I do not want a version with heating problems. Could you please tell me if there is, or will be, a usable version of ubuntu on my machine ? I would really need it for my scientific simulations.

Best regards,

If Ubuntu has issues you could try a different distribution. Fedora may run well or even Debian (which Ubuntu is based on). Worth a try.
