Your system seems not to be running the newest version of the kernel which is available for your Ubuntu release (should be 5.4.0-33).
What output do you receive for the commands
uname -a
lsb_release -crid
sudo apt update
apt list --upgradeable

Hey michael
Strange output as 20.04 has:
"focal (20.04LTS) (kernel): Generic Linux kernel image
5.4.0.33.38 [security]: amd64" as the latest kernel.
So what kernels have you got installed ?
Please show us -
dpkg -l | grep linux-
And what does the package manager think about inconsistencies ?
show us:
sudo dpkg -C
-sometimes I do wonder-

What happens if you reboot and then issue the command "uname -a"? Does it still show the 5.3 version of the kernel?
What is the output of
ls -l /boot
?

Do you select specific options from the grub menu when booting?
What output do you receive for the command
sudo update-grub
?
And then, after another reboot, does "uname -a" still show the 5.3 kernel version?

Yes I select Ubuntu 19.10. Odd, but do not have 20.04.

My bad. I did not think it important. Thought when I got other problems fixed, this might work right. Will tell what other problems, that I can remember. No sound, no menu (upper right). I loaded 20.04 on a empty partition. Somehow it loaded on partition that had 19.10. Think I miss labeled the partitions. Probably more.
New boot.

There are some unexpected parts in your output, e.g.
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.
I: The initramfs will attempt to resume from /dev/sdb3
I: (UUID=19140fb9-
I: Set the RESUME variable to override this.
What is the output of the commands
cat /etc/initramfs-
sudo lsblk -f
sudo blkid
cat /etc/fstab
And, are you able to select
'Ubuntu, with Linux 5.4.0-37-generic'
in the grub menu, and what happens if you do?
And finally, you might consider booting Ubuntu 16.04 and Ubuntu 18.04 and do a "sudo apt --purge autoremove" there to remove obsolete versions of the kernel packages.

I have sound!!!

Linux michael-

Not 5.3.0-53 !
sudo apt --purge autoremove -- Removed 4.15.0-91 and 4.15.0-91.92.
What fixed these problems? Will check other things, if any problems, will get back, or mark solved.
Thanks more than you can know!!!!
