mp4 Videos not playing in ubuntu 18.04

Asked by icdd

I can only jump around single frames in the video but it doesn't play, I see no motion. When I reboot the computer I can play 1 to 2 videos before I have this problem. I'd appreciate any help.

I assume you are using Ubuntu and not Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu. Make sure you have codes with:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

Obviously change the package name if you are not using Ubuntu.

I'm using lubuntu. The videos don't work on youtube and other sites on the internet, and local video files on my computer I play with gnome mpv.

What Web browser(s) have you tried?

If it's in a browser then it's flash player you are having issues with or is it embedded actual video (rare these days)

I've tried it in firefox and google chrome. I'm using firefox version 60.0.1 and one of the latest google chrome versions.
