I have added a line to /etc/default/grub
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="amd_iommu=on iommu=pt"
so far this has seemed to improve my issue. I tried this after the original post here.
It is unclear to me what this actually does though. It seems to enable amd controlled IOMMU but what is the passthrough(pt)?

should I have made the last two entries as providing information instead of comment? I am new to type of forum/contribution system?

The change to grub has eliminated this issue, I have monitored it for a few days now.
