startx not working in all version 4.10~ linux kernal. ubuntu 16.04

Asked by Aravind R

I will like to tell you in advance that I have already preformed . Removing ~/.Xauthrity file. Reinstalling NVidia drivers. And all other stuffs in wiki.ubuntu.

The exact story line:-

I was very happy with linux kernel 4.10.0-37 till a week back. All of sudden GUI for desktop version fails to start. After a day of sleepless night I found that kernel fails to access .Xauthority file during boot up.

I have removed the file as per askubuntu article. but not helped me. I finally decided to remove remove 4.10.0-37 and stay in 4.10.0-35 till you send stable release.

Today I have received some upgrade. Now 4.10.0-35 is also not working.

I have tried 4.11.0-14, same error and not working.

For the past 5hr I tried all the steps told in your wiki page.

My current working kernel is 4.4.0-97-generic.

I think some patch is by getting released for all kernel which is causing problems.

I fear I will lose the kernel 4.4.0-97 functionality too.

It is becoming nightmare for me. Just like getting virus in windows pc.

I am a new linux user . Kindly help me fixing this issue.

Then why do you want to change the kernel if everything works under the 4.4 kernel?

Sir I have 2 concern.

1). I want to use new kernel which is avalible in backport and safe to use with 16.04.

2). Somthing is there in my ppa that is breaking kernel configration after I run apt upgrade.

I fear it is going to break 4.4 too. The reason is i have reinstalled the kernel too. Still same problem.
I have tried 4.11 4.10.0-35 4.10.0-37 4.10.0-38.
I doubt nvidia driver or beat version grub. But can't find that.
Please note that all were fine before a week.

Even i tried to install 4.4.0-98 new version priscribed to relese. It is the same.
