boxes around system input fields disappeared

Asked by erikts

boxes for filling in passwords etc. in several system programmes (example UpdateManager) have disappeared. I believe in connection with an update to kernel 4.8-17.
Ideas for how to get them back or check for missing files?

I thank you for your prompt action upon my question.

I have decided to live with this phenomenon until next necessary
upgrade, so consider the problem as solved for now.

If it may be of any interest/use for other people:

erik@HP ~ $ lsb_release -a; uname -a gives:

No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: LinuxMint
Description: Linux Mint 18 Sarah
Release: 18
Codename: sarah
Linux HP 4.8.0-21-generic #23-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 4 18:27:25 UTC 2016
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The kernel was downloaded from launchpad.net.

Kind regards

ETS

Mint is not supported by the Ubuntu community in any way. It has it's own support forums and channels.
None of the "Ubuntu based" distributions are supported by the Ubuntu community. I suggest you post on the Mint forum here:
https://forums.linuxmint.com/

Similarly, Ubuntu is based on Debian. If you ask for Ubuntu support in Debian support channels then you will be pointed here (or similar)

Thanks
