STrange HD-Error after Install and during boot

Asked by kampmannpeine

I tried to install the last Ubuntu 32-System on my neighbour's computer: after installation the boot process produced an error which is described here:

ata2.00: status: (DRDY ERR)

http://superuser.com/questions/997333/installing-debian-8-on-a-vista-windows-free-partition-and-drdy-err?sfb=2
(this gives the same error under Debian as well as Ubuntu ... !)

Is there any clue on how to help my neighbour to install the system correctly?

This issue raises many important questions:

1) How did you install Ubuntu? Via USB stick or via CDROM drive?

2) Which version of Ubuntu did you try to install?

3) I f you installed via CDROM drive, did you try physically removing the CDROM drive from the PC and reinstalling Ubuntu from USB stick instead? Maybe the CDROM drive is faulty.

4) ata2 is referring to which drive? The hard disk drive, SSD drive, the CDROM drive or something else? You will need to check the dmesg Terminal output more thoroughly and check for each occurrence of ata2 in the dmesg logfile. (via LiveUSB session or LiveCD session)....
