Debug kernel - Ubuntu 14.04

Asked by Chris Valean

Can the debug kernel be used with Ubuntu (14.04 specifically) to boot of it?

Installing the appropriate packages will put the vmlinux file under /usr/lib/debug/boot and from the documentation found, I see that for Ubuntu the debug kernel is used only through tools like systemtap?

What I'm trying to accomplish is to identify certain circular logging messages and call traces related to some kernel modules. For instance on RHEL the debug kernel can be installed and booted, which will result in verbose kernel messages.

If you can install it then add it to GRUB then you can add any kernel you can download or even build yourself. The OS is flexible like that.

Can you help with this problem?
