Linux kernel 3.2.0-40 is installed but does not appear as installed in the Ubuntu Software Center

Asked by John Keenan

This morning the Update Manager showed that Linux kernel 3.2.0-40 was available. From the Update Manager I installed the new Linux kernel without problem. After the installation I rebooted as instructed. Everything appears to work normally after the reboot and the following command indicates the new kernel is being used:

$ lsb_release -a; uname -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS
Release: 12.04
Codename: precise
Linux Qwerty 3.2.0-40-generic #64-Ubuntu SMP Mon Mar 25 21:22:10 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I then opened the Ubuntu Software Center in order to remove Linux kernel 3.2.0-38. However the Ubuntu Software Center only shows Linux kernels 3.2.0-38 and 3.2.0-39 are installed.

In the Ubuntu Software Center, why does Linux kernel 3.2.0-40 not appear as installed ? What can I do to make it appear as installed?

John
