Updating Aufs3 in Kernel 3.6 rc

Asked by Turbo

Hi,

Maybe this is a little on the edge for someone like me, who is not an expert.

Trying to fix an issue with Ubuntu 12.04 I was instructed to install the latest Ubuntu Kernel 3.6.0 rc, wich I did, but this Kernel is not patched to use Aufs. The reason I want to keep this Kernel is because of the new features, fixes, and probably a solution for a very long standing bug. So, I took a little reading on Google and found this page:

http://technozorgs.blogspot.com/

There is a nice guide step by step on how to do it but my question is:

He uses the original Kernel, but Ubuntu has its own here AND is already compiled:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.6-rc4-quantal/

I'm worried because my newly created Kernel - I guess- will be different from Ubuntu's. How "dangerous" it could be ?? Is there an already patched Ubuntu Kernel RC with Aufs 3 ??

Thank you in advance.

Turbo.

I suggest you contact the maintainers. You are using a 3rd party kernel which is not verified to run in your release. If you need the Quantal kernel then I suggest you install Quantal.

Well, it installed fine and -so far- is working Ok on 12.04 even when it's meant to be used in Quantal.

Too risky ?? In the guide he says it could be the same for Ubuntu but makes no mention about one o another Kernel...

At the end, I will uninstall that Kernel if the risk is high.

Thanks.

Hi,

Just to avoid this open forever. I decided to go back and uninstall the 3.6 Kernel because I was needing a fix for some other problem so, please, close this one.

Thank you.
