daily kernel panic crash

Asked by Brian Gage

I'm running 10.04 LTS and system crashes now on almost daily basis.

I've submitted several apport crash summaries but don't know if anyone actually sees them.

I've been using Ubuntu since Hardy Heron release and have had problem with crashes and lock-ups with every release I've used.

I suspect it might be a hardware incompatibility issue or an installation error on my part but I really can't tell.

I tried analyzing the apport crash summary but don't have the technical knowledge to make any sense out of it.

My frustration is reaching the point of reinstalling Windows on this computer (last resort only!).

Crashes occur at random and I have been unable to duplicate.

Sometimes it will crash when I'm using it and often it will crash when no one is even using it (overnight or gone for the day).

I'll sit down at computer only to find that it has rebooted itself to the sign-in screen.

Can anyone point me in the direction I should be looking.

Have you tested your RAM using Memtest from Grub menu?

Yes, I have tested RAM with Memtest and there were no problems there.

Well I seem to have stumbled upon the source of the crashing. I was using a Netgear WG111v2 wireless USB adapter for my WiFi Internet connection. I installed a PCI based WiFi adapter and have not had a crash since. I don't know how or why but it seems to have solved the problem I was having.
