ubuntu start in recovery mode, crash problem

Asked by Kevin Rickman

my windows os crashed so i turned to my ubuntu for use.

this is the most ive ever used it.

after putting the computer to sleep, when i reactivated it, it didnt start so i force stop the computer (hold power till off).

when restarting, it either refuse to start or ask to enter recovery mode so i go into recovery mode.

in recovery mode, i then click shutdown for it to properly close and on stating again, it does the same thing.

i tried using the ubuntu install disc to see if it has a repair option but it refused to start also.

the computer is quite old and i just want to rule out any os errors first.

thank you.

From recovery mode made a partition check...

Then please press shit at boot and select previous installed kernel and try to boot

If boot please made a system update/upgrade... from update-manager

If still doesn't boot from grub menu please choose item to made a RAM memory check...

Please also tell the release of Ubuntu you are using

I've recently posted the same sort of problem stating:

"ubuntu will not boot 1st time. purple screen freezes. have to power down & up again to get options to start under last ubuntu used. why? how do i fix?"

When the option screen comes up on the re-start, if I select anything other than 'last version' (i.e. if I try 'recovery' mode) it still won't boot.

Do I assume something is corrupt in the boot-up program and a download of some update will fix? Any particular update I should look for?

I'd appreciate any advice.

Cheers
