Quad core usage

hi guy's
i am using ubuntu 11.10 x86 in my laptop which has a quad core processor and my question is that does it takes full use of all processor or do i need to install ubunut of 64 bit? and why x64 is better in terms of processor useage and memory and what is the difference any way??

It (32 bit) should be using all cores. Have a look at system monitor, in the resources tab, and you should be able to see what is going on.

You'll need the 64 bit kernel to utilise more than 3Gb RAM properly, though if you have more it may have defaulted to the PAE kernel which will utilise the RAM. If you've got 1GB RAM I'd suggest you stay with the 32 bit release as you will be making better use of the available RAM - 64 bit has more overhead.

If you've got enough RAM in the system that the extra overhead is not a problem then you might find the performance of the 64 bit release is better.
