i have a problem in my kernel

hello can you help me about my problem.
while downloading some file in transmission bittorrent client my laptop got shutdown and the msg appear "kernel panic" then my laptop goes hang so what should i do about this problem
pls help
i'm using default kernel 3.0.0-12 generic
