Can not play music CD`s. Computer crashes

Asked by Guenter Manigel

Hello:

Goal: To either play a music CD or import the music.

Issues:
The computer apparently recognizes the CD and shows it as a desk top item. It is not possible to play the CD using Rythmbox or VLC. The computer simply freezes. The freeze happens rather quick within 20sec of starting this process.

I am running 10.04 LTS on a 4 year old Gateway desktop with a new 500GB HD and 2.5 GB RAM. I have not done any research on changing settings or running other media players. The music I have is from an old Windows system and was mostly imported using itunes.

Any pointers are mostly appreciated.
