HP G62-A35er bios update

Asked by Ihorko

Who updated bios on that laptop model and found screen backlight working? Because I tried updating to F.46 version but revert version back due to no backlight.
Now I can see F.47 bios on official HP site. Can anyone prove that it will not "kill" backlight?
I know that with newer bios fn and special key will be working (see bug #661768). Maybe somebody can help me with patching kernel to support old bios?

What GPU are you using?
Have you reconfigured the BIOS after updating?
Which release are you using?

My GPU is Radeon HD5470 as noted in specification http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c02280947&lang=en&cc=us&taskId=101&prodSeriesId=4156509&prodTypeId=321957
Because of official HP site proposes only win7 bios updater I used it to flash F0.46 version. But screen backlight was not working from startup and with external monitor I tried to restore bios defaults with no success.
I also loaded ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10 releases and found my fn and special keys working. But without backlight.
So I returned back to old bios. And windows can handle fn and special keys with this version too...
But what can I do in ubuntu?

One word - SUPPORT

HP support Windows more than Ubuntu so stuff tends to work extremely well in Windows as HP make more money supporting Windows.

Possibly a regression bug. Does it work in the liveCD environment?

All information I googled before about bios update in this model is that backlight is not working on newer bios even in windows and on system POST.

My question is the next - where can I find a person to help me with support of old F.0B bios on this laptop model?
I guess tha HP will not provide the information about how to work with this bios...
Can I do some tests to understand how to catch events from fn and special keys or this is almost impossible?

Issue is finally solved with 4.9 and later kernel versions. Thanks to kernel developers team.
