Just upgraded to 11.10 and computer is slow and locks up

Asked by donlovelady

When I am trying to move things around like playing solitary the card I move moves in jerks. If I try to hurry it then the computer locks up and I have to turn it off and then turn it back on. I have tried the escape key and the windows tried and true Ctl/Alt/Delete.
The only thing that works is the on/off button.

You should use Alt+SysRq+REISUB before holding down your power button, because that is way easier on your system and is less likely to cause data corruption on your hard disk:

But before trying that, you should press Ctrl+Alt+F1 and, if you get a text console, *then* press Ctrl+Alt+Delete. That's considerably easier on your system -- it manages a normal shutdown and reboot.

As for the cause of your problem, to troubleshoot it, can you try booting from the Natty kernel and see if it goes away? If so, then that would confirm it as a kernel problem. To do this, hold down Shift while booting and boot from the highest kernel version with a major (first) version number of 2 rather than 3.

Can you help with this problem?
