TPM Error - bios Trusted Platform Module

Asked by Mark Bryant

The computer reports an issue when booting that TPM failed. This is a new issue for me. I have tried disabling TPM through BIOS - I can F1 the screen to resume but I would prefer the machine to be running smoothly again! The operating system is Ubuntu fully patched ie whenever the update manager says there are updates I do them. I am new to Ubuntu having for many years used Windows.

What is the exact error?

The exact message is

TCG ERROR:TPM Initialization Failed

I have the option of pressing F1 to resume or F2 to enter BIOS. This problem has only recently started.

Since this is a BIOS-level error, it doesn't have anything to do with Ubuntu (or whatever other OS you have). You may have changed a setting in the BIOS or updated the BIOS, or your TPM module may have gone bad. The good news is that if you don't know what it is, you're probably not using it and you should be able to turn it off in the BIOS. First, I would try updating to the latest BIOS.

What system do you have?

Thanks for the answers guys, I am not using it (to my knowledge) and suppose the module must have gone bad as I haven't done any updates to the BIOS or made any changes as the system was working perfectly there was no need to. Going to mark this as thread as solved as if not a software issue then not relevant.

Thanks
