Frequently, at 2 minute intervals, my system freezes for a few moments. My syslog show lots 'ata resetting link' messages as shown below:

try changing the SATA mode to either PATA, SATA, or AHCI in BIOS.

Thanks, seems a very good idea since my HD reports to be SATA and by BIOS settings I found show IDE. Sadly, I seem to be unable to change that setting using the Phoenix setup util for the Acer system. Suggestions?

Maybe you need to enable some sort of admin mode in the BIOS.
