I would like to know how to check for hardware

Simple question from a very new Ubuntu user. How can I check my machine hardware, like graphics card, mac address, sound card and such? Thanks,

gksudo apt-get install lshw-gtk; gksudo lshw-gtk

Should show you. You can get a LOT of low level information by running:

sudo dmidecode | less

(use cursors to scroll up and down, Q to exit)
