System has recently started freezing after roughly half an hour

Asked by Andrew Aylett

After a recent update (since Christmas), my laptop (running 10.10) has started freezing after roughly half an hour of use. It doesn't seem to make much difference whether I'm actively using the system or not, and the time is not fixed -- sometimes it lasts for longer, leading me to believe it's working again...

Lucid and Maverick have run on this laptop with no issues at all; I had some issues with Karmic and Jaunty, but nothing so apparently-random. I've no idea where to start debugging. Any hints?

I suggest you test your RAM. Did you get to Lucid by upgrading or a clean install?

if your ram tests okay, try loading an older kernel. i had a problem similar to that and the bug team suggest i install a new kernel.

Also check to make sure your cpu isn't overheating.
