pc will not boot after update to linux 2.6.38-3

Asked by Joe

I updated my PC running Ubuntu 10.10 Linux 2.6.37-12 to Linux 2.6.38-3 via Update Manager this evening 2/15/2011. When I tried to boot up in Linux 2.6.38-3, I receive "mountall: Disconnected from Plymouth", and then I get a login prompt. I reinstalled the linux 2.6.38-3 via Synaptic Package Manager, and rebooted with the same result. I am luckily able to boot back into Linux 2.6.37-12. I do not know how to proceed from this point., except for writing an bug issue.

Could you follow https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Reinstalling%20from%20LiveCD to confirm it's not a Grub issue.
After, you should have at bottom of page a button to convert this question into a bug.
I already set packet to linux (kernel).
People of kernel should explain you what data they need.

I followed Method 1 (Simplest) and Method 3 (chroot). and the problem still occurs. I had already written a bug report (719826) which I have linked this question to. Thanks for the suggestion.

Can you help with this problem?
