Mouse locking up Laptop

I have a Laptop - Older model IBM T2647 Pentium III - I load the system which works fine - then after awhile the laptop, mouse, screen lockup solid and are no longer responsive. I have a wireless Belkin PCMICA Card which gives me connectivity via my router and that locks up solid as well. Any assistance would be appreicated.

Have you tested your RAM?

Can you give the output of:

uname -a; lsb_release -a

I am not that familiar with Linux. I was installing to get more familiar with it. I have since reloaded the laptop with Windows. I am planning another new install soon. I was just wondering if this was a common problem with ubuntu.
