BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000005a

Asked by horst hummel

Hi,

I am not sure whether to add this as a bug report. Recently ubuntu has freezed sometimes and I cannot do anything except the hard(!) shutdown. (Btw: I use the hard shutdown quite often after having unpluged an external monitor and reboot; it seems that after upgrading from 9.10 to 10.04 ubuntu does not realise the second screen was removed during the first boot; therefore I hard shutdown, restart and it works. Moreover the ctr+alt+bksp usually does not have any effect). The last three times the freeze happened was when using skype 2.1.0.81-1ubuntu5, firefox 3.6.13+build3+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.10.04.1 and maybe gnome-terminal2.30.2-0ubuntu1 (with some ssh conn.).

So I had a log in /var/log/kern.log today, and it seem that at that times, when it freezed, there was following bug in the kernel:
BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000005a

Following there are the snapshot of the two of those bugs. I dont want to spam this report, but if necessary I can also upload the whole kern.log

Does anyone understand what the problem is or if this is worth a bug report?

Thanks a lot
Horst
