Ubuntu 9.10 Not Booting/Error Message

Asked by TimH

Granted, this is an older version. I tried it out before installing it using the disk. I was impressed so went ahead with the install. It took about 35 or so minutes for the install and as it requested, rebooted the computer. After reboot and the GRUB loading screen, I was asked to enter the password I had chosen to use during setup. As soon as I start to type in my password, the error message....

"[40.6153547]serial8250:Too Much Work For IRQ19" pops up and locks the CPU.

I have to do a hard reboot to get out of the screen. I tried the Ubuntu Recover option (in the initial menu list) and it still doesn't work.
I have made threads of this error on the site and it seems that downloading and installing the latest Version (ver.10) is an option. My question, If I go that route, will I have to uninstall Ver. 9.10 first or can Ver. 10 be installed over it? Is there a work around for the error message? I'm stumped!!!

You can install over it selecting as target the same partition(s) where the older version is now.

In case you decide to have some fun trying to debug what's your problem you'll need to guess what is that IRQ. Maybe your PC is a laptop? if so try to disable the modem at bios
