My computer keeps shutting down

Asked by Sofia

Hellos, Well I have a problem with my computer...I have windows Xp 2002 Service Pack 2..lately my computer turns off by itself and it doesn't work unless I use it in safe mode. Windows loads normallyonly for like 1 min then it automacially shuts down.

I have recently insalled Kubuntu to run it with windows but when I click on kubuntu my computer shuts down as well..

any idea what this problem might be and how do i fix it?

1) the computer might heat over
2) the computer has got a short-cirquit and is using too much power from the power-adapter
3) there is some other problem on the motherboard
4) the processor is heating over

unfortunately these problems can't be fixed- sounds like you'll need another computer.

alternative: for case N°4 you can check if the processor is cooled properly and add new cooling-paste. If you don't know how to do by yourself- a PC-shop will do it for you. very low costs.

Check your RAM
Open the system and look for this:

Either way, this is a HARDWARE issue.

You may want to try a new PSU.

if it works in safe mode, then there's something wrong with your hard drive.
most likely it's a bad sector or it's been infected with a virus.
it sounds like you have a boot sector virus.

Sofia, from your initial statement, are you saying Windows doesn't automatically shut down in safe mode? Did you attempt to install Kubuntu to remedy the problem?

Can you help with this problem?
