If you have PS/2 keyboard and mouse:
USB devices unplugged, type
   sudo lsusb > usb_before.txt
After plug devices, and type
   sudo lsusb > usb_after.txt
   diff usb_before.txt usb_after.txt
and post result of last commands

If when you boot from Ubuntu 10.04.1 CD, you can't use mouse & keyboard, it will be easier to wait Ubuntu 10.10, which will arrive in a month.
Else if you can use mouse & keyboard when you install, and with Grub menu, but not after installation, you can have a kernel issue. In this case, you could try to install an older kernel or wait a new one. But even in this case, I presume it will be also easier to wait Ubuntu 10.10.
If you plan to reinstall, please give me an exhaustive description of when work and don't work keyboard (installation, Grub, Login).

It is kernel issue only...downloading ubuntu 10.10 beta ....as we don't have any other solution than reinstalling the Ubuntu whether 10.04 or 10.10
I will go with it....
