Mmmm sounds like you have a software not properly installed and configured.
If you open a terminal (you find it in Applications/

Oh you can't boot on your hd anymore ? Did you try to boot in recover mode, then enter my commands ?

Press "ESCAPE" when you see the first Ubuntu screen (there should be two icons at the bottom).
Then it will display the boot menu, with the recovery mode.
In recovery mode, you just have a console. You can type my commands there.

You do this without the LiveCD. It's a bit like the "Failsafe" mode of Windows. You are booting to the minimum system, without the graphical interface.
Do you get this boot menu ? You should be able to see it, as the system is not booted yet when it's displayed. Just boot and press "Escape" again and again and again, it should interrupt the boot process and display it.
Then you can choose the first line with "recovery mode", it will start Ubuntu in the terminal.
Tell me first if you can reach that.
Can you help with this problem?
