10.04 kernel update 23-generic broke several USB interfaces

Asked by Lloyd Miller

After kernel update for xubuntu 10.04 from kernel 2.6.32-22-generic to 2.6.32-23-generic some of my USB devices quit working properly. Namely a wireless network dongle, a LED display and some web-cams. When I reboot back into the old kernel they work ok again.

motherboard is a gigabyte EP43-UD3L with Intel P43 chipset providing the USB ports.
USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller

The devices that malf on the newer kernel are:
 ID 050d:705c Belkin Components 802.11bg
ID 0403:fa01 Future Technology Devices International, Ltd Matrix Orbital MX2 or MX3

and one or more of:
 ID 0ac8:301b Z-Star Microelectronics Corp. ZC0301 Webcam
ID 0c45:6029 Microdia Triplex i-mini PC Camera
ID 046d:08d7 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Communicate STX

The log messages seem to point at each individual device or device driver rather than anything systemic with USB in general.
One possible clue they all seem to be USB 1.1 rather than USB 2.0 devices

I am wondering, have I got some development experimental kernel here? I may have put something in /etc/apt/sources-list that I shouldn't really have done. The bad kernel seems to be:

$ cat /proc/version_signature
Ubuntu 2.6.32-23.37-generic 2.6.32.15+drm33.5

you can use the synaptic package manager to remove the bad ones . or if you know the terminal [ i use search in package manager to remove old or bad ones ]
just click search when the window pops up put in the bad one then click search and remove completely . then do the next one . restart see if they are gone .

ii linux-image-generic 2.6.32.23.24 Generic Linux kernel image
this is what is in my 10.04 install . i used synaptic package manager and searched for 2.6.32.15+drm33.5 and it was not found on my system . my question is is this just for laptops or a sever both of which i do not have .
