Unable to load ubuntu on athlon 64 pc, ecc problem

Asked by Raghu

I have a problem installing ubuntu on my PC. The PC is having Athlon 64 3000+ processor. The motherboard does not support ECC (i think as there is no option to enable or disable ECC in the BIOS setup) . The problem is posted on the net at the following link.

6.073813] EDAC amd64: WARNING: ECC is NOT currently enabled by the BIOS. Module will NOT be loaded.

I am new to linux, how ever I have been using Windows from lat 12 years. I would like to install Linux on my this machine. Please do let me know what should I do?? Can I load ubuntu on this machine? If yes, then how do I do it?

Can you please clarify 'problem', e.g. any error messages.
Karmic on an Athlon 64 3500 runs without any issues at all.
The message about ECC appeared daily in syslog but didn't cause any issue, it's just a message.
It doesn't appear anymore and was fixed already.

I have never seen this being a problem installing, the message is informative since the kernel will attempt to load the module, but this should not stop an install or operation.

Can you help with this problem?
