I can also confirm that the lucid-proposed firmware package allows my wireless card to work.
However, I sometimes experience the similar problem to Kesten (or at least a problem with the same dmesg output). I'm guessing this is a separate issue more relevant to Bug #552717, which is mentioned in by ThyMythos in #17.
