just a possible solution is to run 2.6.22 from ubuntu 7.10 further, but there are some problems with closed drivers like nvidia. Then 8.04 will print like all other distros before. This printing bug is really a mess cause all alternatives lpd, ipp and socket:9100 are totally broken at same time.
I suggest to not install or upgrade to 8.04 if there are any kind of network printing required! Searching the web shows article from gentoo to mandrake of this ugly bug. The importance should be high cause all network printing are broken. I found no hints in the logs to get more information, the data seems to be blocked or mangled silently.
