For Hardy there is currently a test kernel (smb3) building in my PPA at
https://launchpad.net/~stefan-bader-canonical/+archive
(since that is based on the latest kernel in -proposed this might require to enable -proposed in the installation sources as well)

If you could try this and provide feedback that would be great.
